Pink Pussy Hat Project: How Does That Grab You, Trump?

Women across the country are dealing with their grief about Hillary coming in second in November: To protest Donald Trump, they’re wearing Pussy Hats – it’s not a joke. Knitting and sewing groups, women’s clubs and enterprising entrepreneurs are rockin’ the Pussy Hat Project to create bright pink hats fashioned after a pussycat silhouette.

Now the “Pussy Hat Project” has gone nationwide and it is puuurrrrring right along.. Scroll down for the hot pink pussy hat headgear..

“Pussy Hat”

You may have guessed the connection by now, but here you go: The project was launched by Los Angeles-based Krista Suh and Jayna Zweiman and links back to the outrage ensued after the release of a video which featured Donald Trump bragging about grabbing women by the pussy.

But these Pink Pussy protest hats are intended to make a political statement on women’s solidarity as well. On the National Mall during the Women’s March in Washington on Jan. 21, the day after Donald Trump is sworn into office, hundreds of thousands of women – upwards of 200,000 – are expected to attend. Not sure if everyone is wearing a pussy on their head – but it isn’t for lack of trying.

Heisey has shipped her hats – which she fashioned out of felt instead of the more time-consuming knitted versions to many states and says; “We have pastors wearing the hats and people in church groups – even people who aren’t going to the march but want to stand in solidarity.”

Not quite everyone is thrilled with the project or believes wearing a pink pussy hat will do anything but make Beevis and company snicker:

Washington Post columnist Petula Dvorak mocked the movement as well-intentioned but has the potential of making the protest march “more Lilith Fair than Lilly Ledbetter.” In case you’re wondering – that’s a reference to a lesbian-friendly Rock concert.

Wrote Dvorak:

“Protests are successful and effective when they have a clear message, a clear mission. That’s part of what made the 1913 march by the suffragettes seeking the right to vote so memorable and the 1963 Martin Luther King, Jr.-led March on Washington so powerful. They are unsuccessful when they are simply a stage for venting.”

In The New York Times, LeRhonda S. Manigault-Bryant, an associate professor of Africana studies and associate dean of the faculty at Williams College, expounded on how she, as a black woman, would sit out the march. She said black women at the march would be “merely peripheral interlocutors” for what are supposed to be women’s rights and human rights writ large.

“There is a long history of black women being overlooked by, excluded from and co-opted into events that profess to be for the benefit of all women but that at their core almost exclusively benefit middle class, straight, white women.”

The idea, it seems for the Pussyhat Project is a big “F … you” to Trump and his supporters. They are hoping that the 200,000 marchers all wear the pink hats and send a strong message of resistance.

Heisey and Millner both are directing all the proceeds from the hats to Planned Parenthood, which Republicans have threatened to defund.

“It’s important for people to come together,” Millner said. Her words, not mine.

Those who cannot attend the march in Washington are invited to make hats for others. There is even a downloadable tag on the “Pussy Hat” website where a maker can introduce herself and comment on which issues concern her:

So of course instead of empathy for women empowering themselves, we get plenty of this below:

The “Pussy Hat” Project is a big “F … you” of sorts to Trump. The degree of immaturity is breathtaking.

I personally think the pussy hats are a stupid move. It’s the kind of symbolism/social signaling that reinforces stereotypes about liberals.

Were any of you that currently oh-so-offended by Trump equally offended by the behavior of Bill Clinton?

Hi, Dad? Yeah, I know you died 4 years ago, but I just had to tell you this…. You remember mom, right? The sweet girl you married, who raised your kids? The nice lady you went to church with? Yeah, well, now she’s calling herself “nasty”, wearing a hat meant to symbolize her vagina, and marching in protests with a bunch of lesbians. Are you proud? Ok, well, just thought I’d let you know. See you soon! I think I found the opposite of the pussy hat though..pussy hat5

If you’re someone who is unimpressed by events like the ‘slutwalks’ and whatnot, then the hats probably seem like an annoying parody of themselves. All that being said, Trump is a scumbag and women (as well as everyone else) should protest against him.

Bunch of jerks – although I agree with the last sentiment. Leave your comments below and share this on Facebook people!

One final douche below. Pun intended:

Queen Ann
“They are just mad because no one has ever grabbed theirs…”

Queen of what – the ignorant people on Planet Ignoramus?

Where were you all when my husband was philandering all over this city? Even when the press just laughed off all his sexual conquests, and blew his load all over Monica’s blue dress, you all didn’t say a damn thing!
