An Oklahoma couple has been arrested and charged with child abuse for what a doctor and many nurses are calling “the worst case of child abuse they have seen.”
Kevin Fowler, 25, and Aislyn Miller, 24, were taken into custody on Dec. 10 after their twin infant daughters were seen looking like skeletons, with bed sores and severe diaper rash.
When the babies were taken to a hospital for treatment, the police were immediately called.
One infant had feces in her ears, while a nurse told officers that a maggot crawled out of the other girl’s genitals.
There was also an infected wound on one of the babies, caused by a piece of hair getting wrapped around her finger and it never being removed.
Miller tried to use all kinds of excuses pass off the abuse. She told authorities that she and Fowler are “new parents,” thus do not really know what they’re doing; she said she does not have health insurance and doesn’t know how to find any that is affordable; she claimed that the girls were born premature, and that was why they were in such a condition.
She did admit, though, that she knew the girls had “issues.”
According to Opposing Views, both Fowler and Miller were arrested at the hospital and are being held at Tulsa Jail in lieu of $100,000 bail.
When asked about the infants’ condition, Miller reportedly told police she knew there were issues, but that she and Fowler are “new parents” and don’t have experience taking care of infants.
Miller also reportedly told police the babies were born two weeks premature, and that accounted for their condition. She also told police she didn’t have health insurance and didn’t know how to find them affordable healthcare.
Police arrested Miller and Fowler at the hospital. They remain in Tulsa Jail in lieu of $100,000, according to jail records.
